NAEA Position Statement on Visual Arts Education and Social Art (Adopted March 2015; Reviewed and Revised March 2018; Reviewed and Revised April 2023)

On November 5, the last ballots in the 2024 general elections were cast following many early voting efforts, determining new leadership in Congress, governors’ mansions, many localities, and the White House. While a few U.S. House races remain uncalled, we are able to begin determining the makeup of the 119th Congress, the White House, and how that may impact arts education.

Thank you, U.S. Department of Education for releasing a letter today to state education agencies clarifying the use of federal funds for arts education! The Arts Education Alliance is proud to have supported this effort!

The release of the Biden Administration’s Fiscal Year 2025 (FY 2025) budget request on March 11 marked the first step in the annual federal appropriations process, in which funding levels for the upcoming fiscal year are determined. In this budget request, the president proposed $82.4 billion in discretionary funding for the U.S. Department of Education (ED), a $3.1B increase over FY24 funding.

NAEA invites members to apply and join the Delegates Assembly Ad Hoc Committee, who will be called upon for the revision of two publications: the Professional Codes for Art Educators and the Professional Code of Ethics for State and Province Associations.

The NAEA Visual Arts, Design, and Media Arts Recruitment and Retention Task Force is sharing findings, relevant research from a literature review, and recommendations to the NAEA Board of Directors for actions—emphasizing community engagement, professional development, and administrative support in this insightful report.
